Update in 2014!

Wow... the past year has brought a LOT of change around this house... We have another baby girl to keep us busy! (So that makes three precious girls 3 and under) Yep, our hearts are pretty full. Annnyways.... we are back and in full swing! I may not be updating here as often as I would like... but our store is now open! Yummy Whipped Shea Butter Cream

What did I do this week? Well, one thing I managed to get in was making a super moist, whipped shea butter cream. Made with organic, unrefined shea butter, organic unrefined, cold pressed coconut oil, vit E oil, and doTERRA's awesome Balance blend with a few drops of doTERRA's Lavender too!
Have you ever looked up the benefits of Shea butter? I was impressed, and being I adore coconut oil, mixing the two can only be amazing right? Right.
Shea helps with dry skin, insect bites, cracked skin, stretch marks, rashes, itchy skin, arthritis, dermatitis, muscle fatigue, anti inflammatory, wrinkles, full of vit A and E... and the list goes on!

First, I put the shea in the bowl, room temp and forked it over...

I added the coconut oil.... and whipped... and whipped. Ended up that I stuck it in the oven for a few min to melt it down a little because it was still a little grainy (it went away if you rubbed it on your skin, but I wanted the butter texture).

And I got it!! Look at this stuff... looks like some yummy frosting. :)

Here is when I added about 45 drops of each lavender and peppermint, (it might have been a little more.. it was hard for me to smell it, so I kept adding.)

And there they are! 4 oz jars of yummy buttery goodness. 

This is the perfect lotion for anyone out in the work place (as balance helps with anxiety, keeps you grounded, calms...), using it during the day for dry skin, for kiddos at night (the combo of Lavender and Balance help my kids immensely at night!) , feet, hands.... etc!!! Lavender is also a great calming oil, helps with insect bites, cuts, burns, and so much more. I have a feeling I will be finding I am using this alot!! 

Whipped Shea Butter Cream

4 oz shea butter

2 T coconut oil

20-25 drops of essential oil

Mix together the butter and oil at room temp, melt (just enough to whip them up good, but not enough to ruin any good properties) and whip for 5-10 minutes. 

Add the essential oils to your liking and mix up more. Put in jars, seal tight, and enjoy! Keep out of direct sunlight and store in a cool, dry place. 

This should last for 2 years.

By the way, I quadrupled this recipe.. hence the extra essential oils added. :)

Chapstick!

This morning I woke up and actually remembered to put a spoon of coconut oil in my mouth while getting ready. After reading all the good stuff that oil pulling can do for you, I decided it should be a part of my daily routine. It actually wasnt bad at all!! 25 min was as long as I did it this time as the kids woke up and needed my voice. :) 

Todays project was.....

Chapstick!!! . I used Wintergreen eo... and it smells really sweet and yummy! It did make a mess as I chose to do this when the kids were still awake.. (dont ask me why). It was really quite simple to make

Wintergreen Chapstick
1 cup coconut oil
1/3 cup beeswax pellets
30-40 drops of wintergreen eo (I used doTERRA)

Melt together the oil and beeswax on a double boiler. Add in the eo when combined and pour into chapstick containers. Let cool, add the caps and enjoy! :)

The Flu crazy....

Around this time of year I like to stay inside... wishing I could go out in a bubble so all the people around us that are hacking and sneezing wont affect us. Unfortunately  thats not how life goes, so we all go out and cross our fingers we dont come home with the latest influenza. Right now... seems that EVERYONE is sick with something! Here is just the beginning of my love for essential oils...

My hubby and I have both been taking On Guard internally when we feel sick, so far so good! The kids got down with a little cold after christmas (we stayed at a hotel... among it all!) and we oiled them up every night! If you cant catch it in time, you can at least help your immune system fight it off as quickly as possible. (How cool is that?! No toxins, no additives, no side affects....) Makes me happy. :)

A little introduction...

Hello! My name is Kate. I love all things coconut. I love the outdoors. I love to read, art, keeping active and friends. I love my family. I have two sweet baby girls and an amazing hubby that works hard so I can stay home and have the full time job of raising our kids. Since our oldest was born 2.5 years ago, I have dove into the natural side of things. Some say I may be a little crunchy, but thats ok! I love that have learned how to keep my family healthy, treat them naturally, and protect us from as many of the toxins our world is brimming with as possible. I recently found doTERRA essential oils! I have used essential oils for a few years but have fallen in love with this company. I've learned how to use these oils in our every day life, taking out the toxic cleaners, over the counter drugs, and paired with coconut oil to make these our go to for everything! (yep.. pretty much literally everything). If you have any questions about them, how to get them or how to use them, please dont hesitate to ask! I'm in the process of making lots of goodies (involving coconut oil of course) with the essential oils that will be available to buy. I'm hoping my journey will inspire some of you to become more natural too.. and perhaps you can teach me a thing or two as well!
